Default Another "How To" for Power Valves

The simple way to adjust power valves with a home made harness that costs 2 dollars. “Pic1” shows a 12 volt lawn mower battery and a harness with a 10 amp fuse. At the ends of the wires I put 2 basic crimp connectors with flattened wire. This is so it can be incerted easily into the servo test port. “Pic2 (way out of focus) is the test port located between the servo motor and the steering hoop. It has 3 openings but only 2 wires. With the key “OFF” Put the hot wire (Red) from the “+” side of the battery to the red wire on the test port and the ground wire (Black) from the “-“ side of the battery to the black wire on test port. “Pic3” shows where the gap you are adjusting. It’s the gap between the 2 bolt cover and the 4 bolt cover. This is where you want to maintain a 2.0 to 3.5mm gap. Loosen the 2 bolts and back them out, as you loosen the bolts the spring inside the cover should be opening the gap. “Pic4” shows the servo motor. Take out the 3 screws that hold the cover on the servo so you can see what’s going on in there. At this point I loosen the cables by screwing them into the servo so there is slack when the servo activates. Now I turn the key “ON” and you will hear the motor activate. Using an allen wrench as a measuring tool (2.5mm) adjust the gap between the housing in “Pic3” by tightening or loosening the cables in “Pic4”. Don’t tighten the cover onto the allen wrench, just adjust enough so the allen wrench can feel drag when pulled out. I included a pic of the Yamaha procedure in “Pics 011” Do the same for all 3 cables and valves. Put it all back together and you are ready to go. The first time you do this it may take a little while but after that it’s a 5 minute job. I hope this helps some people out. Please chime in if I missed something.

We already got a Sticky in the FAQ area for the other technique, any more will just confuse people.

Thanks

Even with all the posts on faqs on how to.. there will always be questions...

im speaking for ppl like me that dont know much. When reading about a servo and everything else it gets confusing when u dont know what everything is..

Some times ppl need a little push or boost of confidance that they are able to go do things themselves... like me for example.. ive read the power valve adjustment faq many times but still wasnt sure of myself if i understood it fully, gettin help from alot of great memebers helped me on following things step by step making sure its being done properly... knowin i have some to walk me through the proceedures on adjusting and setting them made me more than comfortable enough to go and do them myself!

And more than likely im going to ask for some more guidance when alligning the valves comes into hand some time next week! I will follow the steps on the faqs but ask further questions on what im not sure of!... better to ask and get things right the first time rather then guessing and taking it all apart again and wondering where u went wrong... this is a one time deal.. you get good help from members and im that more educated on my sled i wont be a pro at it but now i can follow the faq on valves without any help from memebers the next time i need to check them..

I know these types of question arise all the time and its always the same deal.. but its all about patience! im sure it gets annoying but once its done u got one more educated member that can walk through other peoples questions about em!

What i can see getting annoying is if people DID NOT read the faqs and asked questions that may have been not asked if they read the post then clearly u send them on a reading session and help them once they have read it multiple times.. ive read the valves faq enough times that i prob could memorize it soon!

Thanks alot guys!!!!!

Why not just idle the sled down until the servo motor opens ??? this way there is no need for a battery, and no way to short something else out.. AND its free.

yes...... RRL, but the FAQ post answers everything and even includes pics! Real easy.

If the FAQ doesn't answer your questions on adjusting then you can obviously post something reffering to what you are talking about, it walks you thru it quite well IMO.

Yea it def does walk you through it quiet well now looking at it.. some of the questions i asked where kinda redicilous now looking at my post...

But more than anythin i felt comfy enough to go ahead with it cause i had people walk me through each step even though it was easy as 1,2,3

I prob would of had little problem doing it myslef if i printed the faq n just went n did it... but wasnt sure enough of myslef to do that ..

It was nice having the members have my back on it n walk me through it even though alot of it was on the faqs and prob drove em nuts or close to it! lol

But thet got me through it n im about to order the valve cable tomorrow when the shop opens
= )

well, its easy the second time you do it, the first time is a learning process, getting the carb boots off and on the air box are kind of a PITA but that was the hardest part. theres an easy way to do it. Lube. Lube is good on all sorts of things.
