Default Enticer 250 Keihin carb - really tough start

I have been trying for 4 years to get this sled right. it is a 1978 enticer 250 with the Keihin carb. This machine just will not start. I can get it to start if I take the plug out and put some mixed gas down the cylinder. I need to do this 2 times before it will run. Once running it is perfect and will restart every time until it sits for an hour or more. Then nothing. I have rebuilt the carb (2 years ago), cleaned it a million times, adjusted the bolt on the bottom to 5 1/4 turns out. Checked the choke which is free and seated properly. checked the throttle cable which has 1/8 inch of free play, replaced all fuel, oil and pulse lines. I just don't know what to do. I'm about to put a ball type primer in the fuel line to see if that will help. Does anyone have any other ideas? I would really appreciate any help I can get.

I would check to see if the screw on the bottom of the bowl is still on. They are known to fall out and are next too impossible to find.

it's there, set at 5 1/4 turns out and the lock nut is secured and the fuel level is right on. it runs great through the the entire range. no bogging or hesitation at any RPM. it just won't start.

edit: I noticed you have the mikuni carb setup. If I can't get this right I will problably go that way. Did you do it or was it already done?

SpartaSXr Very Good Buyer/Seller
Default 250

Yup we had the same problem with the same sled and year. We bypassed the fuel level thing and put a squeeze ball in it. now it just needs choke to start when cold and runs great, it's fast for a 250 single !

Thanks SpartaSXr I bought the primer bulb after I posted my question. I read through my post and there really is nothing else to do except try the primer bulb. Thanks for the reply. I've never been able to get it right, but they are a blast when they run.

I just finished putting in the primer bulb. pumped it a few times. pulled the choke and then the starter rope. it was running before the rope was half way out on the first pull. Thanks for the help. I'm so happy right now.

did you just put the squeeze bulb down by where my oil tank used to be? right between the tank and carb right?

Also is the tank connected to the upper spot on the carb and the lower one is connected to the motor (pulse line?)?
